Barbara Collura, President and CEO of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, issued a statement addressing recent clarifications about Governor Tim Walz’s (D-MN) personal experiences with infertility:
“As Governor Tim Walz’s candidacy for Vice President in the 2024 election garners increased attention, there has been considerable focus on his and his wife Gwen’s family-building journey. The campaign has recently confirmed that while the Walzes support in vitro fertilization (IVF), their family was actually created through intrauterine insemination (IUI). This detail was only recently clarified, and RESOLVE regrets any confusion that may have arisen from our previous communications about their path to parenthood. We value all routes to becoming a parent and appreciate Gov. Walz’s support of our community and advocacy since his participation in our federal Advocacy Day in 2017 during his congressional term.
“Our current efforts are directed towards addressing the significant challenges faced by our community. This year has seen a rise in legislation and court decisions threatening to limit access to essential fertility treatments. Insurance coverage for infertility treatments remains fragmented and insufficient, and our active duty military personnel and veterans are not receiving the comprehensive support they need.
“The ongoing dialogue about the importance of access to IVF and other fertility treatments has resonated with countless individuals striving to start families. It is crucial that our elected officials and government representatives work diligently to ensure that building a family is made easier, not more difficult.”
