Flo Health, a London-based startup specializing in fertility tracking and period prediction through its app, has secured $200 million in its Series C funding round led by General Atlantic. This investment places Flo Health’s valuation at over $1 billion, marking it as the first “purely digital” women’s health app to attain unicorn status.
The app, leveraging advancements in AI, smartphones, and connected wearables, provides women with comprehensive insights into reproductive and menstrual health. Despite navigating regulatory challenges, including a recently settled privacy-related investigation by the Federal Trade Commission, Flo Health has grown significantly. The company reports serving 380 million users globally, with 70 million monthly active users on its free product and an additional 5 million paying for its premium version.
The Series C funding will support further user acquisition efforts and expand services to cater to older demographics focusing on menopause and perimenopause. Flo Health also aims to pursue strategic acquisitions to accelerate growth, bolstered by support from General Atlantic.
Commenting on the investment, Jessie Cai, Principal at General Atlantic, expressed confidence in Flo Health’s vision and its potential to innovate within the women’s health and wellness sector. Cai, alongside Tanzeen Syed, MD, will join Flo’s board to provide strategic guidance.
The funding round underscores a broader trend in the digital health space, where investments in women’s health startups have surged nearly 60% over the past three years, reaching nearly $5 billion. Flo Health’s previous Series B round of $50 million in 2021 contributed to this momentum, with the latest funding round reflecting substantial interest from investors.
Founded by CEO Dmitry Gurski and his twin brother, both Belarusian tech expatriates, Flo Health has capitalized on a wealth of experience in health and fitness app development. Their journey highlights the growing impact of technology on healthcare, particularly in empowering women with personalized health insights.
Flo Health’s ability to achieve unicorn status amidst a competitive landscape underscores its pivotal role in transforming digital health solutions for women worldwide.
