Lucknow: Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy are emerging as effective treatments for women with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR), a condition characterized by fewer eggs in the ovaries than normal. These advanced therapies were highlighted at a recent medical conference organized by the Indian Fertility Society Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. Chandravati, speaking at the event, emphasized the potential of PRP therapy in fertility treatment, drawing parallels with its successful applications in orthopedics and dermatology. She explained that PRP involves extracting a small amount of the patient’s blood, processing it to concentrate platelets and growth factors, and then injecting this enriched plasma into the ovaries. This process aims to stimulate ovarian follicle development, rejuvenate ovarian tissue, and ultimately enhance egg quality and quantity, particularly beneficial for women who have not responded well to conventional fertility treatments.
Further insights were provided by Prof. Malvika Mishra of RMLIMS, who discussed stem cell therapy as another promising avenue. She highlighted that stem cells possess regenerative properties capable of repairing and improving ovarian function. By introducing stem cells into the ovaries, they can facilitate the regeneration of ovarian tissue, thereby enhancing overall ovarian function.
Dr. Nisha Bhatnagar from Delhi underscored additional factors contributing to infertility, including work-related stress, alcohol consumption, smoking, and poor diet, affecting both men and women. Addressing these factors is crucial in preventing infertility.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. CM Singh, Director of RMLIMS, and Dr. Pankaj Talwar, President of the institute, underscoring the importance of continuous medical education in advancing fertility treatments.
This conference signifies a significant step forward in exploring innovative treatments to address infertility challenges, offering new hope to affected individuals seeking to conceive.
