A recent report highlights the significant financial challenges faced by individuals undergoing fertility treatments, revealing that 3 in 4 people experience financial strain. Among women, one-third spend over $50,000 on their fertility journeys. These findings were published in “Beyond the Bill: The Hidden Costs of Fertility Care,” a survey conducted by Maven Care, a major virtual clinic for women and families. The survey gathered responses from more than 1,000 women.
The release of the report coincides with National Infertility Awareness Week, which begins on April 20. According to Maven Care, 1 in 6 people worldwide struggle with infertility. However, many families lack the support they need.
Employers are starting to make a difference. The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans reports that 40% of U.S. employers now offer fertility benefits to their employees, marking a 30% increase since 2020. Leading companies are expanding beyond financial assistance. They are offering a comprehensive approach that includes emotional, financial, and clinical support to better serve employees and manage healthcare costs.
Kate Ryder, founder and CEO of Maven Clinic, emphasized the importance of fertility care, particularly in vitro fertilization (IVF). “IVF is a life-changing technology that makes dreams come true. Providing access to this essential care is the starting point, not the end,” she stated. “Aspiring parents deserve 24/7 support that meets both their emotional and clinical needs, delivered with transparency and compassion.” Ryder also called for greater systemic support for families affected by infertility, stressing that millions are in need of help.
