Hilaria Baldwin, the 41-year-old wife of actor Alec Baldwin, has opened up about the emotional and physical challenges she faced during her IVF journey, particularly in light of her previous miscarriages. In a recent episode of THE BALDWINS, Hilaria shared the deep pain she experienced after losing an IVF pregnancy around the fourth or fifth month, describing it as one of the lowest points in her life.
“I didn’t know what I was going to do,” she confessed, recalling the devastation of the loss. Having had multiple miscarriages in the past, she said she struggled with the decision to pursue IVF again, feeling conflicted about the fate of the embryos. “I didn’t want to ‘kill’ any more of my embryos,” she admitted, reflecting on her fear of the process repeating itself.
The Mayo Clinic defines IVF as a procedure where mature eggs are fertilized by sperm outside the body, and the resulting embryos are then placed in the uterus. For Hilaria, the trauma of her previous losses made her hesitant to try again. “I was terrified of having an IVF baby again after the traumatic loss that I had. My fear was that if I put her inside of me, I was going to kill her,” she explained.
Despite the uncertainty and fear, Hilaria’s decision to move forward with IVF was motivated by the desire to open the door to new possibilities, giving her hope for a future with another child. Alec and Hilaria share seven children: Carmen Gabriela (11), Rafael Thomas (9), Leonardo Romeo Alejandro David (8), Ángel Charles (4), María Lucía Victoria (4), and Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas (4). Alec also has a 29-year-old daughter, Ireland Baldwin, from his previous marriage to actress Kim Basinger.
The couple, who values their large family, previously shared how the arrival of each new sibling has enriched their lives. “We have ‘somos un buen equipo’ engraved on our wedding bands. We say that to each other all the time at home — that we’re a good team,” Hilaria shared. “One of the most beautiful things my children have experienced with a big family is how the heart can grow with every new sibling.”
In addition to their family dynamics, the Baldwins recently opened up about the impact of Alec’s involvement in the tragic Rust shooting, explaining how it has affected their lives and forced their children to navigate the trauma in their own ways. Alec reflected, “Our lives are very, very different. Our children have been forced to recognize that. They’ve been forced to deal with that, with us in their own way.”
Hilaria’s reflection on her IVF journey and her decision to move forward in the face of fear represents a significant moment in her story, as she takes a bold pro-life stance while navigating the emotional and physical toll of fertility treatments.
