Evvy, a company dedicated to addressing the gender health gap, has unveiled a new development in its flagship Vaginal Microbiome Test. The addition of Fertility Insights marks a breakthrough in offering scientifically backed guidance on how the vaginal microbiome influences fertility. As the only validated, at-home, mNGS (metagenomic next-generation sequencing) vaginal microbiome test on the market, Evvy is now extending its capabilities to include fertility-specific data.
The vaginal microbiome, consisting of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, plays a critical role in reproductive health. Research has increasingly shown that an imbalance in this microbiome can lead to inflammation and increase the risk of infections, making the environment less favorable for conception. Conversely, a microbiome dominated by protective bacteria like Lactobacillus crispatus has been linked to better fertility outcomes, improved implantation, and higher chances of a successful pregnancy.
Infertility remains a major concern, with one-third of cases classified as “unexplained.” Despite the growing body of research connecting vaginal microbiome imbalances to infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, and preterm birth, detailed testing of the vaginal microbiome has remained out of reach for many—until now. Evvy is closing this gap by offering fertility-specific insights, empowering individuals to better understand and optimize their reproductive health.
“The relationship between the vaginal microbiome and fertility is one of the most promising areas in reproductive health,” explained Dr. Kate McLean, Chief Medical Officer at Evvy. “There’s compelling evidence that specific bacteria in the vagina play a role in everything from embryo implantation to pregnancy loss. Until now, this crucial information was unavailable to patients and fertility providers. With Evvy’s new insights, we’re making the latest scientific findings accessible, providing a valuable tool for enhancing reproductive success.”
