Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MY Hospital) in Indore is poised to become the first government hospital in Madhya Pradesh to offer In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) services. This move marks a significant step towards making advanced fertility treatments more accessible to those from middle and lower-middle-class backgrounds who may struggle to afford the high costs of private healthcare.
Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of MGM Medical College, shared that the hospital plans to set up a dedicated outpatient department (OPD) for IVF and related treatments. The facility is expected to open in about a month and a half, offering essential medical care to individuals facing fertility challenges.
Dr. Ghanghoria emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that many people are unable to afford the expensive IVF procedures at private hospitals and are thus deprived of the opportunity to experience parenthood. “The goal of this facility is to provide a more affordable alternative for those who need it most,” he explained.
Currently, IVF treatments at private hospitals range from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, which places it beyond the financial reach of many families. The new IVF facility at MY Hospital will significantly lower these costs, making the treatment more accessible to a wider population.
Additionally, once IVF treatment is included under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, beneficiaries with an Ayushman card will be able to access these services at MY Hospital for a cost within the scheme’s limits. This development will further reduce the financial burden on eligible families, making IVF more affordable for those in need.
