March marks Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about a condition affecting approximately 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. Despite its prevalence, endometriosis is still widely misunderstood, resulting in delayed diagnoses and ineffective treatments. In honor of this important month, Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD, a highly specialized gynecologic surgeon and co-founder of The Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC), is advocating for access to advanced surgical solutions that offer lasting relief for women suffering from this debilitating condition.
Dr. Danilyants has been specializing in minimally invasive surgery since 2008 and emphasizes that endometriosis is often misdiagnosed or dismissed. “Many women are told their pain is ‘normal’ or that hormonal treatments are their only option,” she said. “Endometriosis is a complex condition that requires expert care. When left untreated, it can cause years of suffering and impact fertility.”
What Is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, leading to symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and infertility. Though it can affect women of various ages, it is most commonly diagnosed in women between the ages of 20-50. Unfortunately, many women experience delays in diagnosis, with some struggling for years without effective care.
A Call for Specialized Care
Dr. Danilyants urges women to seek specialized care when dealing with endometriosis. At The Center for Innovative GYN Care, the focus is on advanced laparoscopic excision techniques. This minimally invasive approach is designed to remove endometriosis tissue with minimal external scarring, significantly reducing recovery time and offering women a quicker return to their daily lives.
“The delay in diagnosing endometriosis can be devastating,” Dr. Danilyants said. “Women deserve much better care and faster answers. Our approach is designed to provide effective, minimally invasive treatment that allows women to regain control of their health.”
By raising awareness of the condition and advocating for advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Danilyants hopes to improve the lives of women who are suffering in silence, ensuring they have access to the specialized care they deserve.
