Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti Multi-System Hospital (ABUAD MSH) has officially launched its state-of-the-art fertility centre, aiming to alleviate the emotional, physical, and financial toll of infertility on couples. The centre, led by Chief Medical Director Dr. Kolawole Ogundipe, comes in response to the growing prevalence of infertility issues affecting millions of couples worldwide, and particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Ogundipe, acknowledging the deep emotional strain and stigma infertility causes, highlighted that the condition often leads to feelings of isolation, hopelessness, and even health complications such as high blood pressure and depression. The newly established fertility centre, he emphasized, aims to offer hope to couples longing for the experience of parenthood by providing high-quality reproductive healthcare.
“We understand the physical, emotional, and financial burden that infertility can impose on couples,” Dr. Ogundipe said. “This centre is equipped with cutting-edge In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology and advanced facilities designed to ensure precision and high success rates.” With these advancements, ABUAD MSH hopes to significantly reduce the financial strain that many face when seeking fertility treatments abroad, offering affordable, accessible options to Nigerian and African families.
The centre’s services include IVF, intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), egg freezing and preservation, ovulation induction and monitoring, as well as fertility counseling. These services are offered at a fraction of the cost of medical tourism, ensuring that more families have access to essential fertility treatments.
Aare Afe Babalola, the founder of ABUAD, expressed pride in the centre’s launch, emphasizing that it was a crucial milestone in both the university’s and the hospital’s journey. “This fertility centre represents hope and healing for countless families, and it is part of our ongoing commitment to improving healthcare accessibility in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
Babalola also addressed misconceptions surrounding the hospital’s fees, defending the institution’s reputation. He pointed out that the claims about ABUAD MSH charging exorbitant fees were unfounded and that patients who have experienced care at the hospital have found it to be both high-quality and affordable.
The new fertility centre represents a significant step forward in addressing the challenges of infertility in Nigeria, offering advanced treatment options and expert care to couples seeking to expand their families. Through the efforts of ABUAD MSH, many hope to find both medical solutions and the emotional support needed on their fertility journey.
