For women actively trying to conceive or planning for future pregnancy, making key lifestyle changes can significantly enhance fertility and promote a healthy pregnancy.
Dr. Dave Hamilton, a naturopathic doctor and herbalist at New River Natural Health, recently shared expert insights on Here @ Home, offering natural approaches to reproductive health.
According to Dr. Hamilton, certain supplements can play a vital role in supporting fertility and pregnancy. He recommends Omega-3 fatty acids (particularly DHA), high-quality prenatal vitamins with methyltetrahydrofolate, NAC or glutathione, choline, myo-inositol, vitamin D3, and CoQ10.
Additionally, he highlighted herbs known for their fertility-boosting properties, including vitex, black cohosh, red clover, maca, ashwagandha, and dong quai (angelica). However, he cautions that individuals should consult a healthcare professional before incorporating new supplements or herbal remedies into their routine.
For those interested in learning more about infertility challenges—including male infertility—Dr. Hamilton has previously discussed these topics in other Here @ Home segments.
Dr. Hamilton holds a doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (now Sonoran University of Health Sciences) in Tempe, AZ. He also co-owns an urban homestead, promoting the philosophy of “Food as Medicine.”
