Kendall Gilding, the former Channel Seven newsreader now working with Channel Nine’s Today show, is recovering from surgery after battling “crippling” pain from endometriosis for two years. The journalist shared her health journey with her 27,000 followers on social media, revealing the details of the surgery she underwent to treat the painful condition.
In an emotional Instagram post, Gilding explained the challenges she faced in prioritizing her own health. “It can be so hard to put yourself first,” she wrote. “Yesterday, I had endometriosis surgery, along with the removal of severe adenomyosis and treatment for varicose veins. This was the best laparoscopy I’ve ever had! Get yourself a surgeon who holds your hand while you fall asleep, but is also one of the best doctors in the country!”
As an ambassador for Endometriosis Australia, Gilding emphasized the lack of a cure for the disease and the misconception that pregnancy can alleviate its symptoms. For her, the pain worsened after having children. “It has crippled me over the last two years,” she stated, adding, “People mistakenly say pregnancy can improve it – that’s not true! In my case, it was worse after babies.”
Her health struggles come just weeks after her husband, Tim Morgan, was seriously injured in a beach accident at Burleigh Beach in Queensland. Morgan was thrown by a powerful wave, landing on a sandbar, and was rushed to the hospital in a neck brace. Doctors initially feared he wouldn’t walk again. However, Gilding later expressed her relief, saying, “Praise the Lord that he can walk because lots of people that come in here with this kind of injury don’t walk out. He will walk and go on to live a normal life once his bones heal.”
Gilding also shared the challenges Morgan faced in recovery, noting that he couldn’t sit up or shower for days and had to be given sponge baths due to his immobility.
Before her current role at Channel Nine, Gilding spent 12 years as a newsreader at Channel Seven, resigning from the network in December 2023. She began her career in journalism in 2011 as a presenter at Brisbane’s 96five Family Radio.
