On January 10, 2025, to mark its 101st anniversary, the non-governmental organization Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria celebrated Founders’ Day by presenting essential delivery kits and cash gifts to two newborn babies at Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos. The two babies, born minutes apart after midnight on the same day, were honored with special gifts as part of the occasion.
In addition to celebrating the “Baby of the Year,” the organization distributed baby and mother kits to expectant mothers, ensuring that the kits were well-equipped with necessary supplies for both mother and child after birth. This initiative underscored the group’s ongoing commitment to improving maternal and child welfare.
The anniversary celebrations were part of a global observance of Inner Wheel’s founding, which began in Manchester, United Kingdom. Through their charitable acts, such as these donations, Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria reaffirmed its dedication to supporting communities and spreading compassion among women worldwide.
As part of the Founders’ Day activities, the organization also made an impactful visit to Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Development Council, where they distributed food items to local residents. Zainab Ikheloa, the Immediate Past National President of Inner Wheel Nigeria, highlighted the global nature of the celebration, emphasizing the organization’s mission of empowerment and its continued efforts to support people in need.
Abiola Aberuagba, Chairman of Inner Wheel District 912 Nigeria, also addressed a pressing issue: food insecurity. She stressed that insufficient food remains a major nutritional challenge in the country and called for innovative solutions to stimulate affordable food production and distribution. Aberuagba further advocated for healthy diets as a means to prevent malnutrition and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cancer, underscoring the importance of maintaining a nutritious diet from pregnancy through to the later years of life.
The event not only marked a historic milestone for Inner Wheel but also reinforced the organization’s ongoing commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of individuals and communities around the world.
