Carl Woods has shared his thoughts on the failed IVF attempts he underwent with Katie Price, calling the experience a “blessing in disguise.
The couple, who were in a relationship for over three years before parting ways in 2023, tried IVF in hopes of having a child together — Katie’s sixth. However, despite their efforts, the treatment was unsuccessful.
At the time, the couple allowed cameras to document their IVF journey for the Channel 4 special Katie Price: Making Babies, which will air next week. Sources close to Katie revealed she wanted to offer viewers an honest and unfiltered look at the emotional challenges of IVF, sharing the personal struggles she faced.
However, Carl, a 46-year-old car dealer, now says he feels a sense of relief that they did not have a child together. Reflecting on their situation, he told The Sun, “I’m not unhappy but ecstatic” that the IVF did not succeed. He described the outcome as freeing, explaining, “This is not a heartbreak situation. I’m sure she’s glad she’s got the clean break. We don’t have any ties now.”
He further expressed his belief that their separation was for the best, stating, “God was looking down on me and Kate and said, ‘You’re not matched to be parents. Let’s not make this work. You go that way, I’ll go this way.'”
Both Carl and Katie have made it clear that they have no interest in watching the upcoming documentary. Carl referred to the show as “old news” and said that he did not see the value in it airing. “I’m not stressed about it. It was a long time ago. Bygones be bygones. It’s all buried,” he commented.
The couple’s decision to pursue IVF came after a tumultuous period in their relationship, during which Carl learned that Katie had been unfaithful. Carl now believes that their relationship was never meant to last, noting that they were “not right for each other.” In hindsight, he says they should have reconsidered the IVF decision, acknowledging that “children put strain on a relationship,” and they were already facing significant challenges.
Filming the documentary also made Carl uncomfortable. He admitted that, looking back, the entire process felt “wrong” to him. While he believes the couple would have still split, he recognizes that having a child would have added complexity to their breakup.
Katie, who is now in a relationship with Married at First Sight star JJ Slater, also shared her feelings about the IVF journey earlier this month. In an interview with Closer magazine, she expressed that watching the documentary would only serve as a painful reminder of her past, calling the experience “horrific.” She reflected that the relationship “wasn’t the right one” and agreed that “things happen for a reason.”
