JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Representative LaDonna Appelbaum has introduced House Bill No. 487, aiming to mandate health insurers in Missouri to cover in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments for residents of the state.
“Currently, 23 other states, including Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana, have enacted similar legislation, allowing families to expand with the help of IVF,” Appelbaum explained. “Missouri should join them. The cost of IVF in our state is prohibitively high, especially for individuals who don’t have significant financial resources. Every woman, regardless of her financial status, should have equal opportunities to build her family.”
The proposed bill includes a provision that exempts health coverage provided by religious organizations, ensuring that it does not conflict with their moral or religious beliefs.
