Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald has opened up about her challenging fertility journey, revealing that her path to becoming a mother has become more complicated than expected. The 43-year-old real estate agent and her husband, Romain Bonnet, are preparing for another round of IVF, but Fitzgerald shared with Us Weekly that she now faces the additional hurdle of surgery.
“I’ve had an MRI, a full-body scan, and I have to have surgery on my uterus,” Fitzgerald exclusively told Us Weekly at a Los Angeles event on April 9, where she and Bonnet were celebrated for their Bella Magazine cover. “It’s going to be an interesting process. It’s not going to be as easy as we thought it would,” she said.
Despite the setbacks, Fitzgerald remains positive about her fertility journey, explaining that while the situation has been difficult to process, she’s grown stronger and more passionate about raising awareness for women’s health issues. “In the beginning, it wasn’t easy, but now I’ve really taken a stance,” she added. “It’s become a passion of mine to talk about women’s issues because I think it’s so common now.”
Fitzgerald has been candid about her fertility struggles, including revealing in March 2023 that she experienced a septic miscarriage. The painful loss was shown on Selling Sunset season 7, which premiered in November 2023. At the time, she shared her grief on Instagram, explaining that although she had become pregnant, the pregnancy didn’t result in a successful birth.
Discussing the public nature of her fertility journey, Fitzgerald shared that she’s had no regrets about being open. “It doesn’t change who I am,” she said. “As a woman, it’s easy to feel like it does, but it doesn’t really change your worth.” She also expressed her desire to support other women facing similar challenges, saying that whatever happens with her own fertility, she aims to help raise awareness and provide solidarity.
Bonnet, 30, has been a steadfast support throughout this process. The couple, who married in October 2019, have faced this journey together, with Romain expressing his focus on ensuring his wife’s well-being and not putting pressure on the outcome. “Obviously, she has to take care of herself and then make sure everything is good,” Bonnet shared. “If it happens, that would be great… we’re gonna see how it goes.”
The event celebrating Fitzgerald and Bonnet’s Bella Magazine cover was a lighter moment for the couple, who enjoyed the opportunity to relax and do a classic old Hollywood-style shoot. “It was so much fun,” Fitzgerald said of the experience, while Bonnet praised the entire team for making the shoot comfortable and enjoyable.
