In recognition of its unwavering dedication to quality management in fertility treatment services, Nigeria’s Medical ART Centre, a pioneering IVF clinic and one of West Africa’s first private research-oriented centers, has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management Systems. This prestigious accolade was presented by the Institute for Enterprise Management and Analytics (IEMA) Standard Ltd.
The Medical ART Centre is renowned for its significant contributions to research and innovation in assisted reproductive technology (ART). During the award presentation in Lagos, Dr. Raymond Smith, the Director General of IEMA Standard Ltd., hailed the ISO certification as a remarkable achievement.
“The certification committee thoroughly reviewed all reports from the auditors and unanimously approved the certification of Medical ART Centre,” Dr. Smith stated. He emphasized that the clinic adheres to all the standards outlined by ISO 9001:2015, which governs the quality management system of the International Organization for Standardization.
“This rigorous process took several months, but it was essential to ensure that the organization meets international standards. Today, Medical ART Centre can proudly affirm its ISO certification to the global community,” he added.
To maintain this high standard, an annual surveillance audit of the Centre will be conducted. Dr. Smith further noted that IEMA Standard Ltd. is accredited by the Egyptian Accreditation Council and the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigerian Accreditation Systems. It is also a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the premier body that oversees accredited organizations.
Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Medical Director of Medical ART Centre, expressed pride in the Centre’s adherence to guidelines established by the Association of Fertility for Fertility and Reproductive Health of Nigeria. He also serves as the President of the Africa Reproductive Care Society Foundation and the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Fertility Societies.
“We sought the expertise of a reputable organization for ISO certification to evaluate our processes, and we are thrilled to have received this certification,” said Prof. Ashiru. “Over the past 30 years, we have successfully welcomed over 3,000 babies into the world, bringing joy to countless families in Nigeria, neighboring West African countries, the Americas, and Europe.”
He highlighted that the Centre’s laboratory protocols adhere strictly to the standards set by the American Board of Bioanalysis, maintaining guidelines from the African Fertility and Reproductive Health (AFRH) that align with international benchmarks.
“Our pursuit of excellence remains steadfast, leading us to undertake the rigorous ISO certification process. This achievement is a significant addition to our 30-year legacy of quality, dedication, and passionate service in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technology,” Prof. Ashiru added.
While celebrating this accomplishment, he emphasized that the certification represents a continuous commitment to uphold the highest quality standards rather than a one-time event.
