Whitney Port has offered a raw and emotional update on her fertility journey as she prepares for an upcoming egg retrieval procedure.
On August 6, the 39-year-old star of The Hills took to Instagram to share her complex feelings about the procedure. “As I head into my egg retrieval, I want to provide an honest update on how I’m feeling, and truthfully, it’s been tough,” Port wrote. “It’s not just the physical discomfort—bloating, bruising, swelling, and heaviness—that’s overwhelming, but also the emotional toll.”
Port, who hosts With Whit podcast, admitted that the hormonal effects are making it difficult for her to cope. She expressed concern over the possibility of not obtaining viable eggs from the procedure. “I’m frightened,” she revealed. “My energy is depleted, and I feel like I’m falling short in my roles as a wife, mother, sister, friend, and colleague. I am constantly on the verge of tears.”
Despite her fluctuating emotions, Port expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from her fans. She acknowledged that her feelings are shifting daily but remains hopeful for a more positive outlook in the future. “I hope to return to a place of gratitude soon, but I’m not there yet with so much uncertainty,” she said. “It may sound pessimistic, but I don’t want to force any emotions.”
Port, who shares a 7-year-old son, Sonny Sanford, with her husband, Tim Rosenman, has been open about her “lengthy and challenging” fertility journey. She previously shared with PEOPLE her experience of a miscarriage when Sonny was 2. “The first time, I got pregnant easily. The second time, however, we faced multiple miscarriages,” she disclosed in April.
In her quest for a second child, Port has endured three miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy. Her surrogacy journey has also been marred by two losses experienced by the surrogate. Port chose to publicly discuss her experiences to counteract the isolation many women face in similar situations.
“For many women, these experiences can feel isolating, and sharing my story has been liberating,” she noted. “So many women go through this, and each experience is unique. Opening up about it helps create space for dialogue and support.”
