In a candid moment on the latest episode of Young, Famous & African, actress Ini Edo shared the deeply personal struggles she has faced in her journey to motherhood. The star revealed that she had always envisioned becoming a mother but encountered numerous challenges along the way.
“I got married at 26, thinking by the time I turned 31, I’d be done with having children and could focus on my career,” Edo explained. “But despite my efforts, I’ve experienced six miscarriages. It wasn’t an easy journey; I’ve tried IVF, but I’ve lost pregnancies along the way. It’s been difficult for me as a woman.”
Edo admitted she never expected to face fertility issues but found herself struggling to maintain pregnancies long-term. When it became clear that conceiving naturally wasn’t happening on her timeline, she began exploring other options. Surrogacy emerged as a solution, and she shared that it was a decision she felt positive about.
Reflecting on her previous experiences, she recalled, “I never thought I’d be someone dealing with fertility issues. But when it seemed like things weren’t going as planned, I took a hard look at my age and considered surrogacy. I’m really happy with the choice I made.”
Edo had previously discussed her fertility challenges in 2023 during an interview on the With Chude podcast. She opened up about the multiple miscarriages she endured while trying to conceive naturally, ultimately feeling exhausted by the emotional toll. Despite these setbacks, her determination to become a mother remained unwavering.
“My drive was to have a child of my own, with or without a partner,” she shared. “I wanted it to be my child, my egg, and thankfully my eggs are in good condition.”
This wasn’t the first time Edo spoke publicly about her choice to pursue surrogacy. In a 2021 conversation with blogger Stella Dimoko Korkus, she explained that her decision was influenced by her desire to avoid potential future conflicts between parents. “It really worries me when I see fathers and mothers arguing about their children publicly or when a man insists on having his child if things go sour between them,” she noted.
Edo’s openness about her fertility journey and her decision to use surrogacy has sparked a broader conversation about the many paths to motherhood and the complexities that women often face in their reproductive lives.
