Sydel Curry-Lee, sister of NBA star Steph Curry, and her husband, professional basketball player Damion Lee, are expecting their third child. The couple shared the joyful news on Thanksgiving, announcing that their family of four will soon become five.
In an Instagram post, Curry-Lee, 30, revealed her gratitude and excitement, sharing a video of Lee holding her baby bump as they stood with their son Daxon, 3, and daughter Daryn, 15 months, in front of a Christmas tree. “Thankful to say the least!” she captioned the video. “We are so excited to announce our newest little miracle… After experiencing the miracle of IVF, we are now living in the miracle of natural conception due May 2025.
A Journey from IVF to Natural Conception
The pregnancy comes as a surprise for the couple, who have openly documented their struggles with infertility and the journey to conceive their first two children through in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Curry-Lee reflected on the unexpected nature of the news in a recent Instagram Reel. Recorded on September 29, the video captures the couple’s initial disbelief and a mix of emotions.
“I just got a notification from my Flow app that my period was 11 days late,” Curry-Lee shared. Despite her initial doubts, a quick test confirmed she was pregnant. “I’ve taken multiple pregnancy tests postpartum, always assuming they’d be negative,” she explained, recalling their two-year battle with infertility and eventual reliance on IVF to conceive their older children.
Navigating Mixed Emotions
Curry-Lee also opened up about her initial complex feelings, admitting that she was just beginning to feel like herself again after weaning her youngest child and regaining a sense of personal autonomy. “I just started feeling like myself again… I was making plans for my career,” she shared.
Her husband, Damion, offered support, acknowledging the time she would need to process the news. “It’s just gonna take her some time to process, that’s all,” he said.
In the caption accompanying her video, Curry-Lee reflected on her evolving emotions. “Looking back on this, I can’t help but be so thankful for time—time to work through emotions and adjust to new ideas of life and how you saw it going. It shows that everything happens for a reason, even if it shakes you to your core initially.”
Gratitude and Sensitivity
Curry-Lee also addressed her followers with a “disclaimer and sensitivity warning,” recognizing that many relate to her infertility journey and may still be waiting for their own family milestones. She expressed her intention to remain sensitive while sharing her authentic experience.
“The video you are about to watch is a raw and real reaction just minutes after confirming our third pregnancy. I never want to come off ungrateful or insensitive to what others are going through,” she wrote. “Emotions are ever-evolving, and that is the beauty of life.”
Now over two months since the initial news, Curry-Lee feels deeply grateful for her growing family, calling the baby “the missing piece to our puzzle.” She emphasized that while pregnancies are miracles, they also come with emotional complexities and responsibilities.
“I see you,” she wrote to followers who may share her feelings. “Having a child is a huge responsibility and nothing that should be taken lightly. While I believe all pregnancies are miracles, they can be extremely heavy at the same time.”
With their third child due in May 2025, the couple is looking forward to embracing their newest miracle and the joys of a growing family.
